I. Preparing for Your Visit
1. How should I arrive for my appointment?
For all dry curly cuts, please arrive with your hair 100% dry, detangled, and down in its natural state. Avoid ponytails, clips, or hats, as these can stretch out your pattern. This allows us to see how your hair lives and breathes in real life so we can give you the most precise shape.
2. Why do you cut hair dry?
At The CurlFriend Company, we specialize in the dry curly cut because curls don't live in a straight, wet line. By cutting dry, we respect your unique spring factor and ensure there are no "surprises" once your hair dries. It’s the best way to create a shape that works for your specific pattern.
II. Our Philosophy & Science
3. What is "Hair Experience" vs. "Hair Type"?
We’re moving away from the old 3b/4c "hair typing" system. Why? Because hair type doesn't tell us what your hair needs. Instead, we look at your hair’s experience. Your new growth, mid-shaft, and ends have all lived through different histories (sun, color, water). We consider each section based on its current state and history, not just a number on a chart.
4. How does Charlotte’s water affect my curls?
Great question! Charlotte water is often high in pH, which can lift the hair cuticle and lead to frizz and dryness. During your curly hair consultation, we analyze how your hair and administer treatments based on your hair needs.
5. Do you use clean products?
Yes! We are an organic curly hair care salon. We prioritize low-tox, sustainable, and high-performance products that nurture your hair without the heavy silicones or harsh chemicals that lead to buildup. Products we use include Innersense Organic Beauty, Davines, EcoSlay and Briogeo.
III. Services & Booking
6. I’m a new client—where do I start?
Welcome! All new guests start with our Signature Curl Service. This isn't just a haircut; it’s a full curly hair education session. We include a scalp/hair analysis, a personalized care plan, a custom dry cut, and a targeted treatment. You’ll leave not just looking better, but knowing exactly how to recreate the look at home.
7. Do you work with wavy hair?
Absolutely. Many people with "frizzy" hair actually have a beautiful wavy pattern that just hasn't been treated right. We specialize in creating a routine that emphasizes definition and volume without the weight all patterns, including wavy hair.
8. How often should I get a curly cut?
To maintain your shape and hair health, we generally recommend a maintenance cut every 3 to 6 months. However, if you’re focusing on a curly hair plan to restore health, we might see you more often for treatments between cuts!
IV. Location & Policies
9. Where are you located?
We are located at 9612A Longstone Lane, Charlotte, NC. We are proud to be the best curly hair salon in the area for those seeking an education-first, personalized experience.
10. Do I need a consultation for color?
Yes. To ensure the integrity of your curls, a $25 consultation is required prior to all color or highlight services. This allows us to test your hair’s strength and plan the perfect formula for your "hair experience."
